I have easily put 100+ hours into these games over my lifetime. They are fantastic examples of early RTS games, and a big reason Blizzard became so famous. HOWEVER, they have not aged well. If you are used to playing Starcraft 2, then Warcraft 2 will feel pretty familiar, but Warcraft 1 controls like a drunk puppy running through concrete. If you buy these games, be very aware that they are products of their time. Great games, especially 2, but controls are certainly a bit clunky. Also, make sure to click as many times as possible on EVERY unit type. Especially the Orc Peons. I can't imagine how much time I killed playing with the sound editor from War2, just playing the 'Stop Poking Meeeee' .wav file and using them for my system sounds in Windows 95.
