I need to get this out of the way first, the game does work. It works exactly as it should and has been updated to include scummvm with the game. You don't need to fiddle with it anymore. Now the game itself. I feel like saying anything about MYST will seem rather hyperbolic, but this is still one of the most beautiful and immersive games ever made. I've played both realmyst masterpiece edition and this and this game STILL shines. The pre rendered graphics give the world a weight of reality. It really does feel like a world, and you slowly figure out how it works. This game doesn't have inventory puzzles and is completely non-linear. You can go to any age and any puzzle and be able to solve it with a little time and note taking. This is an empty world, devoid of people. It immediately strikes your imagination of how these people lived, the tech they used, and who the were. The plot of the game is you find a book describing an island with a huge amount of detail, when you finish, the book shows a window to the world and you're transported there. You have to find your way back home by discovering the history of the island and exploring all of the ages around it. Myst is vague, it's...MYSTerious. Do not play this game with a guide. Have a notebook by your side and take notes when neccessary. You'll get it. I played myst when I was 5 years old, spending so many hours chipping away at it, and I still love it. The game holds up and is beautiful. Myst is a window to another world.
Why call it that? Because that is exactly what this is. This is a lazy cash cow with the amnesia name slapped on it cause they knew people like me would buy it. If you like Dear Esther, good for you enjoy this game. But if you like amnesia, Don't bother. This "game" is a casual walking simulator with build up and atmosphere but nothing in it worth being afraid of.
