I've played Fantasy wars and Elven Legacy a while ago. I am pleasantly surprised that the game mechanics are the same (some minor differences in gameplay) for all 3 games. I find Fantasy General II: Prologue (a little) less good due to the following: Capturing special area's for gold, mana,... is random. You might get a good reward, you might get a bad one. You can save before capture and reload if the reward isn't right for you, but that takes the fun out of it. There is no takeback option for units that you have moved. This is normal when your unit has explored fog of war, but you should be able to undo your move if nothing happened (no fog of war or new enemies detected). The battle result is fixed. You can hover over a unit and see how much damage will be done exactly. It would be nice if there is a slight variation possible in the outcome (a little more or less damage). It's worth trying out. If you like the game but also feel that the price for the full version is to high, check out the other 2 aswell :-)
Expect a short (1 to 2 hours) repetitive basic flash game with good graphics. Frankly, you can find better flashgames on the internet (Fantasy kommander, Chroma Wars) with a bit deeper strategy for free. The game itsself was fine for the first 5-6 battles for me, mainly because i still had to figure out what each unit does. After that, it's the same battle over and over again till you meet the boss. The advancement in levels goes like a tower defense game. There is NO replay value. In battle you cannot see how many health a unit stack has and how many units you had to begin with. The rest of the game works fine. If you want to purchase a hex strategy game on gog, i would recommend fantasy wars.
