Well, I'm actually a bit torn about this game. I really wanted to like it, but the fact that the entire game happens in a goddamn mine put me off a little bit. I was expecting to meet interesting NPCs and villains, but all I found was a procedurally generated mine that goes on and on and on. Maybe it's my fault that I was expecting a bit more of RPG elements out a modern metroidvania? Pros: - Great pixel art - Good bosses Cons: - Pseudo-Random generated map (I don't like the concept. maps lack that personal touch) - Lack of NPCs to interact with - Bland story - LOTS of backtracking
Make no mistakes, Far: Lone Sails is an amazing game. That is if you are fine with a laid back game made for taking in the atmosphere providaded by the environment around you. Pros: - Great Art - Good Soundtrack - Lack of an actual story is complemented by the world around you (The end actually touched my heart, I don't know why) - Nice little puzzles - Responsive controllers Cons: - Achievements are buggy as hell (that's also on GOG Galaxy itself) - It's very short, about 4h in a laid back pace (although the lenght didn't bother me, as I think it's quite fitting in the end)
Simply put, Ori and the Blind forest is an amazing game. Have I played better games? Yes. But all in all, as far as platforming games go, I rate this an outstanding 5. Pros: - Beaultifull Art - Good Soundtrack - Great gameplay - Great story (Ninja onions were present in the final cinematic of the game) - Great length (14h for 100% completion) Cons" - Backtracking can be a bit boring sometimes - Skill Tree could be better
All in all, I give Jotun a solid 3.5 even though it has quite some flaws. I'm a sucker for games with hand-drawn arts :P Pros: - Stunning Visuals - Good Soundtrack - Nice Boss Stages - Nice tidbits about Norse mithology Cons: - Lacking story - Poor character development (we barely know Thora the whole game) - Regular stages feel like a chore most of the times - Clunky combat controls
