If you're like me and never played this game growing up and don't have a pair of nostalgia glasses to put on, I would say spend your money elsewhere. It's not Quake 1 levels of god-tier polished FPS gameplay that's going to blow your mind. It's very janky and outdated and Nightdive's remastering doesn't really make it any better. The only thing the game has going for it is dinos.
The Last Stand: Aftermath steals the reload mechanic from Synthetik and the stamina system from Dark Souls which will lead you to crapping your pants as you're out of breath and bullets and 10 zombies are plodding and eventually running towards you. The game has melee weapons in it, too, from pipes to katanas, but the durability mechanic is ass so enjoy them while they last and get used to punching zombies to death. The guns feel much more impactful and the AR's shred. For some odd reason, the devs recommend you play the game with a controller on the main menu, but it controls absolutely fine on mouse and keyboard and I don't see why'd you ever want to use a controller.
This isn't just some game being carried by what a skeptic would call "gimmicky comic-book graphics in a lovecraft setting." The gunplay is satisfying as hell and headshots matter, but good movement is even more crucial unless you will be cornered by zombies or weird cthulu soldier dudes and be dead in seconds. Reading the steams reviews, it seems people want the devs to remove monster clipping so you can be bad and just hop around like an idiot, but please don't listen to them.
take my nuts in your mouth and stop putting bad products on your store, you jabroni.
The roadmap on here is wrong. There is no multiplayer. The game has zero chance of launching this summer. The devs didn't communicate the issues and sold this game for months knowing that the roadmap was a lie. I found this out after seeing posts from a dev explaining the game's hopeless state on their personal twitter of all things. These pieces of crucial information should be explained publicly to customers on the steam/GoG page. Your roadmap is borderline false advertisement. I don't feel good writing this review because I like what 1C/3D Realms are trying to achieve, but shady crap like this needs to be put on blast. I regret purchasing this game on steam and potential customers DESERVE to know about what's going on with the development.
I see people saying this game is hard, but it's pretty easy to just pick up and play as a complete noob to the 6 dof genre thanks to how smooth and responsive everything feels. the game runs amazingly and is still beautiful looking at times, too, thanks to the lighting. The only frustration I've had is finding that little nook and cranny you need to get through to progress. I haven't encountered any issues with the time limits other users are complaining about yet.
