Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition

Lacking in Everything

Seeing how positive the other reviews were, I expected a much more accomplished game. Sadly, Heretic Kingdoms is hugely lacking in polish, and even its supposed strenghs -- the story and the writing -- are dissapointing. The dialogues are superficial, and the characters have little to no personality. The overall storyline isn't too bad, but the world doesn't bring it alive. The graphics are poor, but for me personally that isn't a concern. The combat is dull and repetitive, your enemies run straight at you, the 'attunement' system provides hardly any excitement at all, while the clunky interface does little to smooth things over. Frankly, even by the 'old school' standards the overall impression is very, very weak. Baldurs Gate 1 still plays better, functions better, and the 'writing team' could learn a thing or two about creating dialogues from the old classics. Overall, Heretic Kingdom is a cheap game, and it provides you with very cheap thrills. If you don't care about the quality of writing, the storyline doesn't interest you very much, and you're just looking to spend an evening randomly clicking on mindless enemies, you might get a kick out of this.
