Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition

A Colorful Classic

A deserved classic. This game has fantastic story, artwork, and voice acting. It has big quests and side quests that can keep you exploring for hours. Challenging, interesting, and yet can be played casual and slow. The writing is fun and witty, lots of humor. It's not all good. It's based on early D&D rules which are a little too complex, confusing, and imperfectly implemented. Some spells are OP, others are useless. For example, you don't need infravision. It takes a while to learn the game. But still a much more straightforward inventory than games post Zelda: BotW. Still, many mechanics work better than most other games. It intelligently cycles thru quicksave slots so you can do that often without bloating the save file. There are some nice, basic features like being able to place markers on the map or take your own notes in the journal that oddly never became standard. Play pragmatically and experimentally. Quicksave often and save a regular backup if you start something big. Don't believe the purists - get the Enhanced Edition. The resolution and additional options alone are well worth it. If you don't like Neera, don't pick her up.
