Only got it because I played it a lot on n64 as a child and it was on sale. It doesn't have the excessive fog and terrible controls of the n64 version. I was quite surprised how fast you move, I didn't remember it being a fast game but looking at videos on youtube it seems even the n64 version was fairly fast movement wise. I am going to play this in short bursts, maybe a level at a time or even just to the next save point each session, it gets quite tedious. The previously mentioned save point system is annoying, wish they had added a quicksave. The enemies respawn, sometimes right in front of you, at least they make it obvious with a beam if light and they don't instantly materialise giving you time to react. There is a platforming which I despise in first person games especially ones where you can't see your feet but it is just about bearable for me here. You don't have any momentum or ice skaty feeling controls like say half life, if you let go of w you stop even in mid air, makes the platforming less annoying.
Maybe you need nostalgia to enjoy this but I have never played it before and found it to be poor. Main character is annoying and the humour is not for me, I doubt even 12 year old me would have enjoyed it. Performance was a bit weird, I had to use my gpu software to limit the frames as it was making the fans kick in trying to get as much fps as possible which I found uneccesary for a game like this. Conversely when I found a can of benzine and used it to set a fire the fps went down the swanny, about 20fps until the fire stopped or I was far enough away. At least it was only £0.89.
Was fun until stealth level. Even if you are noticed by guards/cameras you are stuck using the pistol even if the guards you kill drop different weapons or you find the security/armory room. I only got it because it was cheap, I paid £1.79 and got maybe a couple of hours out of it. I downloaded something called Alpine faction to play it with modern resolutions.
I got this game in 2012/13 in a humble bundle deal but when I finally got around to trying to play it I had the frame rate dropping problem. It's nice to have been able to finally play this thanks to GOG, well worth it at the sale price. Took me 10 hours to beat the main game, it's no deus ex but it does reward exploring where you can in health and reflex upgrades so I didn't find it as boring as most single player fps games. Game looks good to me still but the UI is stupidly small in 1440p resolution. Luckily there's mods, I used one to fix the UI and subtitle size and one to change the voice acting language. I haven't tried the expansions/dlc yet.
I spent more time downloading this than playing it before asking for a refund. My issues are probably very specific to me but having to hold down mouse button to confirm things in menus annoyed me. The accessibility options were half good, I could increase the UI size but that only seemed to change things in game some of the things in the menus when I pressed tab were still in tiny fonts. A stupid robot voice was yapping on at the start, there was no mute voices and have subtitles option. I was in first person briefly then went to third person, looked through keybinds to see how to change back, nothing there I could see. Gave up.
This has some of the worst voice acting I have heard. I managed to get it playing with english subs and foreign audio to make it more bearable. If I had played it when I originally got it I probably would have refunded it but I waited too long to get round to trying it so it's stuck in my library. I am determined to finish the game but I can only normally play in 20-30 minute sessions before getting annoyed, the controls for switching weapons are terrible and you swap slow and I've had a few crashes and falling through the floor of map bugs. The positives are at least the story is fairly interesting and the combat gets a new angle about half way (I think) through when you get supernatural powers. Also it was cheap when I got it on sale.
It was ok, didn't overstay it's welcome, worth the sale price. My two biggest problems where the keybinds and the save system. Reload and use item are set to the same key, try reloading next to a table and you can end up reading a note or ringing the bell on a typewriter. The game just takes all the saving out of the players hands, few tumes I walked through a door for it to slam shut behind me and the game autosave, meant I can't go back and look around and you can only load last save not even a reset to start of level/chapter.
