I was a big fan of these games across DOS and then Windows 95 for Hexen. I revived them a few years ago with mods, which was a joy. But this is a loving and accessible version is fantastic. Not least of which because it is free for those who already own the game on Gog.com. Anyone who loves doom and dark phantasy settings should love this. 5/5
I was a big fan of Dark Forces in the 90's, and its ground breaking sequel. I was so happy when I heard about this remaster, but I did have some reservations, as I thought it would be brought completely up to date visually (e.g. look similar to modern games). However, after playing the game, I think Nightdive have struck a perfect balance between modern graphical techniques and the original feel and art direction of the original game. Hassle free high framerates and controller support were much appreciated by me. I've seen some people complaining of some micro stutter, which i believe is easily fixed through console, but I didn't see it as I have a 144hz monitor. Keyboard shortcuts and little quality of life improvements on the map and PDA were a great idea. Honestly, top marks to Nightdive studios for this superb remaster, and top marks to gog.com for having this game from day 1 release! Hoping for a remaster of Dark Forces 2 Jedi Knight and MOTS now! 🙏 😁
I really enjoyed playing this game. It will probably last me a lifetime as its such a great chess game. There are loads of boards and chess sets to choose from for everyone's aesthetic taste. The best part of it for me ( which i didn't expect) was the amazing classroom section. This is exceptional, as it teaches everything from the basics, all the way up to champion strategies in a clear and concise manner. My only small gripe was that the ubisoft server does not seem to be working for just logging in and joining a game with a stranger. However if you are playing with a friend it is still possible to connect directly to their IP address, which for me is fine. A must have for anyone who ever enjoyed playing chess.
