The game engine itself is great. It does what it sets out to do very well. Allows for fairly large battles to be fought without requiring a crippling amount of micromanagement. You can babysit units as much as you like, but it's also not a death sentence to units when you focus elsewhere. Particularly on the defensive, units will engage opponents etc. fairly well, something many games fail at. The scope of the game is also very nice. Long range artillery crashing in, aircraft swarming the battlefield, all make for a visually attractive and tactically challenging battlefield. The flaw in my eyes was the lack of focus. So many DLCs for the Western Front, even Finland etc, but a strict stance to not make a single map for those theaters. They should have focused on the real estate that was available to fight our battles on. We have packs with forces from all over Europe, but every battle is unmistakably being fought on Eastern European battlefields. It makes for a confusing mess and only highlights a horribly missed opportunity to have one of the most comprehensive WW2 RTS games made. There's a lot to like, but I find myself regretting wasting money on the DLC. I may see British armor fighting the 12th SS Panzer units, but there's no mistaking the roads lead to Minsk, not Caen.
