An amazing release by GOG. I feel they did an amazing job preserving the game for modern audiences. However, here is an early warning for anybody who has played the original. It's the same game as its console brethren. But with GOG, the game is more accesible today. It's the first game in the franchise. To me it's the best one and the most creepiest. The nostalgia I got exploring the Spencer Mansion was amazing. It reminded me of my childhood and how scared I used to get. This game and it's story was so ahead of its time and far creepier than the sequels. The sequels aren't bad, they are amazing in their own right. The original Resident Evil though, left things to the player's imagination. While exploring, things will truly make you ask yourself "What happened here?". To me, that is far creepier than anything else. It showcases how ahead the game was for it's time. The story really sells itself well through the character scenarios. But the biggest character was the Spencer Mansion itself. It's an isolated incident, and the Spencer Mansion is very remote in the middle of a forest. I know its an old game, but if you think about it, it's creepy. The characters you play as are part of an elite team called STARS. They are comprised of former military and various backgrounds. Best of the best. It really increases the tension as you are playing. You find one of your teammates already KIA'd. It really makes you feel as the player "helpless" in that regard. Way creepier, considering who STARS is in the trilogy. This was my first time playing and completing it on PC. If you're a big fan who has never played the pc version, get it. There is a new unlockable when you beat it. But if you expect anything new, don't play this version. Remaster or remake it is not.
