Given this version a few chances over the years and while it's fun when it works, it too often doesn't. Crashes are the norm not the exception and they become increasingly common as you play. Tried across 2 machines and multiple OSes; game runs like an alpha on everything I've tried. Would not recommend
MI4 was always the odd child out of the MI series and for good reason. They opted for low poly, low detail 3d over the bar setting 2d pixel art of the previous entries in what feels like a decision made entirely by the LucasArts marketing department much to the chagrin of fans of the series. Apart from that obvious misstep there's still much to love, if you can get past the dated visuals. Apart from all that, I mostly wanted to let people know that it works with ResidualVM, a standalone interpreter for games that used the LucasArts 3D engine (Grim Fandango and MI4, most notably). That means native Linux and Mac support! You have to workaround some file structure differences, but it's super easy. Left details in an issue here: https://github.com/residualvm/residualvm/issues/1451
Solid fighting game that rewards observation, patience and strategy while punishing button mashing. It's not twitch either, which for me is a plus. PVP is adrenaline pumping fun, PVE have been more a way to practice for PVP. Also there's apparently coop, but I haven't even tried it yet. Also, georgeous.
I've been gaming for some 25 years now and as I get older it becomes more difficult to really get lost in another world the way I would as a kid. I thought maybe it was just a natural part of maturing but playing the Witcher 3 made me realize that it's more to do with narrative motifs that don't engage me anymore and gameplay mechanics that attempt a 1 size fits all approach. This game doesn't try to be for everyone and it shines in that; it deals with mature themes working from an extensive (although more hit and miss) source material and succesfully gamifies them without detracting from them. Get lost in it, it's worth it.
