Silent Hill 4: The Room

great game with bad design choices

silent hill 4 ultimately does feel like a silent hill title, and i mostly enjoyed it. at times however, it did become overly frustrating (mostly the second half of the game), and there are multiple questionable design choices for it, like you not being able to actually drop items and having to go back to the game hub (the room) to actually manage your inventory items EVERYTIME, which was ultimately annoying. but i simply can't help but love all the things it does right honestly. outstanding atmosphere, amazing and interesting antagonist that remains very abstract through most of the game (which was the right choice), outstanding art direction and decent level design (except levels like the hospital, which felt very low effort and not very interesting). there are a lot of frustrating design choices like i said here though, so be aware that you will most likely get frustrated AT some point at the very least. i do think this game is underrated though and it is definitely better than the western silent hill games, but it definitely is flawed in comparison to the original three games. but i do think the good outweights the bad by a long shot, and this is just an objectively solid entry in the series, featuring some of the most gruesome content silent hill has to offer, and some of the most unsettling moments in the series.
