So I bought this during Gog's summer sale. I have played it for a few hours, and it's very linear. There's not really any true choices to make that I've found so far. I certainly wouldn't call it an rpg, maybe a fantasy strategy game. The story itself is well written, if a bit cliched. However, my real problem comes from the game engine itself. After playing this for a while (about six hours all together), now it refuses to start, and tells me my computer has been on too long and needs to be shutdown. Um, what? No. From what I've been able to glean from developer's comments, they made the game engine for 32 bit systems, and after a while the game will crash your system or something, and forcing you to shut your pc down all the way, then reboot it is their solution. If I had known this before buying I wouldn't have made the purchase.
I beat this game in under a couple of hours, and that was with having to do three "mysteries" over because the auto-save system didn't actually save anything the first time I played. (thankfully, this glitch didn't occur again). I really dislike autosaves, I am not so incompetent that I can't manually save a game. The puzzles are incredibly simplistic, no logic involved really, and while there are a few jump-scares, there's nothing scary about this game. I did like the references to the old scifi and especially HP Lovecraft, but the use of the word faggot was completely unnecessary. There was enough abuse of the kid already without using hate speech. I don't feel that this game has any replay value, and I'm sorry I spent 5.99 on this. Also, at one point in time there was a scuba diver washed up on shore of the dam... wtf? It disappeared at my next load, so I assume it was a glitch... I just can't figure out why it was there in the first place.
