No Man's Sky

Broken at core

Even after almost 10 years which have added tons of features and free updates, which is admirable, I just can't have fun. Like it's pretty, has good visuals and sound design, but the game commits the worst sin that's possible for a video game - it's boring as hell. There's billions of planets, but once you see like 5 or 6, you notice the patterns and they all blend the same. They all have the same buildings, ruins, trade outposts, etc. No matter how remote or unrealistic it would be to have them. Base-building, pets, fishing, sub diving or whatever else they added is err.... nice, but what's the point? Most players will mess around with it for like 20 minutes then move on because there's no substance. Like for a game, that's all about planet hopping, why would I want to spend hours gathering mats to build a base on a planet that I'll want to leave anyway? It's just busywork with no practical payoff. Survival is a joke and stops being a thing hour into the game. In fact, at it's core, it still has the same old "mine rocks to upgrade your laser to mine rocks faster" gameplay it had in 2016. Unless they fix the central gameplay loop and combat (which is just insulting, makes upgrading guns and ships trivial in itself), the game will still feel bland. Like I get it's sandbox "DO ANYTHING" type of game, but you can still make a sandbox game that's unique and fun (think Kenshi, X4 or M&B) and doesn't drown you in tedium.
