Little Nightmares

Little nugget of perfection

I have been playing platformers for years now, in general its a genre that can always provide a quick burst of enjoyment. I also havent preordered a game since 2011, but Little Nightmares became the first exception to that rule. The atmoshere, the art style of the trailers flooding facebook had me transfixed; this Tim Burton/Coraline twisted vintage gothic art style with the Inside/Silent Hill Horror puzzle platforming just pushed all my buttons. And I can say after having played it in depth...it is almost better than I had hoped. Now yes, I will adress the length...the game is pretty short, the singleplayer taking on average about 3 hours to complete. But also consider the original Portal, was only about 3-4 hours long in total, and personally I would call that one of my favourite games of all time. I have personally already finished the game but Im eager to get back in to attempt to find all of the secrets and get all of the 'Epic' achievements, and because I was honestly excited to get back into this beatifully dark world. I would say the game surpasses Inside as a platformer as the added third dimension just adds more exploration and scope to each of the environments. The puzzles are probably on par as they never really caused too much of an issue, but the game absolutely does go above and beyond with its atmoshere and horror. Think of the 100s and 1000s of enemies you rip down in something like DooM (2016), but wonder what these creatures would be like if they hunted you alone, whilst you were a defencless and equally tiny nine year old. Imagine 4 different pyramid heads, all sick and twisted but unique in their own way in how they are fought, or avoided or how they might make you into a fine meal. And as far as the price aswell; I personally didnt mind due to the amazing deal of recieving Inside completely for free, so effectively paying about £8 for each game. So I'd advise people to grab this deal as fast as you can because these are both astounding games.
