I first played this on the PS4 some years ago ... and absolutely hated it. The controls were picky, the combat clunky, the movement laborious, the interactions with NPCs repetitive, clumsy and long winded. I played it again recently (ala freebie from Amazon Prime on GOG) and absolutely loved it. I guess the difference was my expectations (knowing it was clunky, laborious, repetitive etc). It ain't no Witcher 3, Skyrim or AC Odyssey, but it is good fun and genuine entertainment. Perhaps I'm just getting old (and more tolerant?) Looking forward to Greedfall 2 now :P
I've got to be honest, I wasn't expecting much from this, but it is a really fun game! The couple of reviews posted so far on GOG are just plain wrong. A lovely isometric builder, with nice visuals (think Dysmantle) and really interesting ideas. The way the world is built is completely up to the player, depending on which tiles you place (much like Carcassonne). You get access to more tiles and biomes the more you explore the world, complete quests and harvest goodies. It doesn't take long to build up a decent sized world. The UI is a bit clunky and takes some getting used to, but perfectly OK with a bit of experience. I've tried Xbox controller and keyboard, but controller works best. The crafting progression is rewarding, and you slowly get access to better gear and items. It just needs a bit of time and patience navigating that awful UI. Once your fingers have learned the neccessary motor response, it does become a bit more natural. The combat is terrible to control, but again, once you get the hang of it, it works OK. Just takes a lot of unnatural repositioning of the the character on the screen to get ranged shots in at right angles (diagonal shots are especially tricky at first). Close combat is a bit easier, but early access to decent weaons is a pain. The soundscape and music are both adequate, but could be a lot better. The music has to be turned off after a while, as it is limited in range, simple and very repetitive. It deserves a look if you like the genre - especially if you grab it on sale. Enjoying playing it - thanks :)
An absolute classic game. Hugely enjoyable. If you have any interest at all, do not hesitate - especially when it is virtually being given away for free in sales. The driving and combat mechanics are incredibly fluid and user friendly. The story is interesting and the character development is awesome. Damn, I've played it several times and now Iwant to play it again.... 6 stars out of 5
Couple of minor bugs with v1.0 - nothing major I won't say it is a Stardew Valley clone, because that is too obvious. It has some nice touches that SDV doesn't have and the artwork is loovely. Feels like a work in progress. It has potential to be a great game - definitely has that one-more-day factor. Thanks
This will be an utterly class city builder, when it is ready. Loved playing a few hours with this. Not quite a game yet, but very worthy of early interest. The essentials are there, and it is completely stable. Give the developer time and I'm 100% certain this will outclass others in its genre ... past and present. Massive potential! Go for it, Yevhen - you are making a diamond game!
"When seagulls follow the trawler it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea," Terrific game and worth all the praise it has received. I installed it this morning and have played virtually 11 hours straight :) It is unputdownable. I'm starting the last quest in the morning :) Lovely ambience and artwork. The UI and gameplay are brilliant. I turned the music off after a while as it was a bit repetetive and annoying each time I entered a port, but everything else in this game is pure class. Glad I paid full price - I hope the devs are working on some expansions ....
I was very excited about this as it is one of my all time favs - loaded the game up, and found that it looked exactly the same as the (patched) original. I was then so sad to see that great features in the original have actually been removed rather than remastered. Opportunity wasted - Refund requested. Live and learn (again)
15 hours in, I'm having loads of fun playing this. Yet another zombie survival game (keep 'em coming), but with a focus on crafting to progress the character, rather than just survive. The monster re-spawning was annoying at first, until I realised it was part of the game make-up, and the story. The re-spawning can be stopped, with the right materials. Getting the materials I need to make/upgrade my gear is a little frustrating at times, but that is only because I desperately want to move on! On a 28" 4k UHD screen, the colours are fabulous. They are a refreshing change to the genre, in a Torchlight kind of way. They might take away some of the apocalyptic atmosphere to some, but they are beautifully rendered throughout, which makes it a pleasure to play. It is definitenly a 'one-more-hour' game, always thinking about what I might find next. Can't wait to get back to playing it to be honest. Top marks to the devs, who I've never heard of before. Will keep an eye on them.
