A lot of work has gone into this game to make sure the two ideas mesh together smoothly, logically, and in an interesting way. It's a victory in more ways than one, and not just because dopmamine goes brrrrr when the little orbs go plink. Although that's mostly what's going on, yeah.
Okay, listen. Though Baldurs Gate 3 has the name and is the better game, it's Owlcat that's carrying on the legacy of the older Baldur's Gate games, and this is most immediately felt in how much this game loves numbers, and how little this game works to help you compare those numbers. If you have ever loved a tabletop game because the numbers hit just right...you're gonna love this bad boy.
-Cons: Slippery movement may not be what you like in a platformer. Occasional bug, like getting stuck on a ledge A few things that looks like platforms aren't platforms Sometimes the edge of objects extends slightly beyond their model Occasionally uninteresting to look at (big walls with single color and no textures) -Pros: Super Mario Sunshine-style platforming Seriously, bouncing around feels great Forgiving base game, tough and rewarding extras Lots to do and see, some nice unobtrusive humor Lots of ways to skip, cheese, shortcut, and optimize Fun soundtrack (mostly) Graphically undemanding Lots of good options for speedruns, accessibility, etc Really, this game is a blast, and if you think it'll scratch the itch, it will. At least give it a shot.
