The game runs smoothly on my system, and I'm ok with the deliberately chunky lo-res art style. But the lack of resources kills the game. Unlike Doom Eternal, where the player carries low amounts of ammo but could replunish ammo with glory kills, this game has extremly rare ammo pickups. And, as far as I have gotten, you can't refill ammo with anything but an ammo pickup. Running through a level with nothing but shovel/chainsaw, a kick, and the Postal Dude's ability to pee on command is just death after death. Starting a combat arena, ala Doom Eternal, with nothing but 20 pistol rounds, 10 shotgun shells, maybe a couple of brains in a jar or a grenade with no way to refill any of it? Not fun. Not hardcore. Just a lack of level balance. Why make a 'boomer shooter' when you don't give the player any ammo to shoot? Health isn't as bad. There are health pickups and an inventory system so you can choose when to use the pickup.
The game starts strong. The story hints of strange otherworldly happenings. The levels are fun, with some nice combat arenas. The art style really cohesive and things just click well. Towards the last half of the game, things just fall apart. The hints of the story just disappear. You just run and shoot anything that moves. The combat arenas go from well though out and fun to lets put you in a tiny room with no line of sight breaks, no health, and bullet sponges for enemies. Fun for a bit, but tedious in longer stretches. And Boss 4 still plays like trash. The latest patch, v 1.2.3, may have resolved the occasional crash to desktop during the level, but it is still a stuttery mess. The hardest part about the fight is trying to hit the boss when the eratic framerate breaks the shooting part of your shooting game. And this is with an 11700K, RTX3080, and 32 gigs of ram. I can only imagine how bad it is on the recommended 1050 Ti or minimum GTX 950 systems with 16 or 8 gigs of ram respectively. So I give it two stars. It doesn't crash your system, but either the listed system requirements/minimums are wrong, or it really needs some more time for patching and optimization.
First off, I would really like to give this game 4 or 5 stars and just be able to tell people to play it. I've played through it multiple times and have enjoyed it. There is a lot of fun to be had here. The cavaet that keeps it's stars down and keeps me from just telling people to go and play it is bugs. Even more so the bugs that are added via the official patches. I'm currently on the 1.0.3.3 version through the beta channel because the 1.0.4.12 has issues with sounds getting stuck and looping, a glitched out end boss battle (light spoilers: the final boss for the second stage has tentacles that fire projectiles at you that you have to to destroy before you can kill the boss. In 1.0.4.12 these tentacles fire projectiles that have no velocity so they sit there by the tentacles. The tentacles are also no longer animated. They don't duck and hide, and you can't visibly gib them so you know which ones have been destroyed. It's annoying, and only a few of the issues in 1.0.4.12) That is the game's real issue. Patches that seem to break as much as they fix. If you are willing to deal with bugs, or being stuck on the beta channel to avoid said bugs, then I think you would have fun. If bugs like what I've described are a deal breaker, than it's probably not the game for you.
