I remember playing a demo for this game when it was brand-new, maybe 10 years old or so. The demo contained 2 maps or so but I played it over and over again. I had just received my first Pentium PC (upgrading from a x386) and I was smitten. So much cool stuff! Units collect experience and gain skills! Heros with spells and talents! At some point, I must have obtained a boxed copy and couldn't have been happier. I played through both campaings. Nothing more satisfying than having an enchanted, gold-tier orc warlord single-handedly defeating entire armies. To me, this is the gold standard for the genre even 25 years later. I finished school, studied, went to graduate school, got kids. This game stayed with me all these years. Give it a go!
