Solasta: Crown of the Magister

Solid DND translation, tactical combat

I'm a kickstarter backer and have played some early builds but did just finish the final build as of a day ago. As an attempt to bring DnD to the PC, Solasta is great. You can build your own party, albeit with a limited set of classes due to licensing agreements, or choose from a preselected list. You can also select backgrounds and personality attributes that do play a role in subquests that come up during the game as well as the dialogue that is spoken throughout the main campaign. For those familiar with tabletop, you can see every dice roll that happens in the game from attacks, saving throws to ability checks. Understanding the mechanics like advantage or disadvantage will be key to surviving some of the harder encounters, but I will say as a veteran of many PC based RPGs and DnD translations, the normal difficulty was a bit too easy. Environments and biomes are great, verticality is used well and is important in most fights. You can jump, levitate, fly, walk on walls. Light is also a powerful factor in most fights. The only minor negative is dialogue. I think the story overall is a good one, but the dialogue in the main campaign is a little stilted and doesn't always convey all the context is needed. I think this is because personalities affect what the characters say, so the combinations don't always flow smoothly with the narrative, but does create great possibilities for the future. Looking forward to what the dungeon maker module will allow people to create. The only place where the game suffers a bit

Indiana Jones® and the Fate of Atlantis™

Maybe nostalgia, but awesome game

I used to play and replay this game over and over again decades ago. What I liked best about it was the atmosphere of mystery and emotion that was invoked by the locations. The puzzles are pretty good, nothing impossible but also not a cake walk. There is humor, a wide variety of locations and even multiple ways to play through the game for re-playability. Atlantis itself (not a big spoiler considering the title) evoked for me a sense of grandeur and decaying sadness that I still remember to this day. Decent plot, great game, definitely fun.
