It's a really fun game but it's hard to play in the modern age, especially when Warcraft 3 and Starcraft 1+2 exist. It gets harder to enjoy as you get further into the campaign as the difficulty spikes suddenly and the game starts to get more and more unfair, but a good challenge for lovers of RTS.
TLDR: You've seen the reviews. You know if it's for you or not. I have fallen off the other 2 Baldur's Gate games but this one keeps me engaged with the writing and acting, and doesn't let me stray too far into areas where I'm underleveled. In previous games I had to stop over and over to reload because I couldn't beat a friggin dragon I wasn't ready for and I didn't know if I was supossed to be able to beat it or not. I also ended up losing track of quests because they weren't tracked all that well. That killed the flow of the game for me whenever I came back from a break. This game solves those issues with modern design. Yes, act 3 is clunky and harder to stay engaged with, but I took a break and came back to progress a few of the threads and I'm very happy I did. A really wonderful game every CRPG fan should try.
