Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition

Somehow, It Just Works! With Mods!

The thing about Fallout 3 is that you don't have to like it, but doggone you have to respect it. It's innovative. Say what you want, Bethesda is not afraid to do something new. This game: built in an engine for swords and magic. They added gun combat. Based on the West Coast, they brought it to DC. Isometric, to fully 3D and First Person. This is the third time I've bought a copy of Fallout 3. First time I bought it alongside New Vegas for 360, and both GOTYs cost me around 20 bucks. Easily some of the best money I've spent in gaming: each took me around 100 hours for a single playthrough. I also bought it on the "other" digital retailer that we all know and love. Now, to be fair they never make any promises that the games they sell will work. If you really expect them to quality check everything, go look up Gabe's net worth and decide for yourself whether you think they're concerned with quality or quantity. It's fine. The vast majority are fine. So the GOG version of Fallout 3, then. I can't explain how happy it makes me to be able to play this game again, and really enjoy it. And not just play it, but MOD the piss out of it. I've probably put 20 hours into a mod-test run since I bought this game, and it HAS NOT CRASHED ONCE. I can't believe I get to write that, about Fallout 3 on PC, in 2018. Whatever sorcery you guys are doing, you should probably stop. You guys are so good that Bethesda will start to purposefully make shite games and go "Ehh, the GOG guys will fix it." But really, this game is an utter gem, and easily as good as FNV. Honestly. Go look at Metacritic for this before you jump to the conclusion that FNV is the only "real" Fallout game. That was a bug-infested mess for damn near everyone who played it on launch. And you know what? I love them both- they're both amazing games, and they each do some unique things. But this game has what the other Fallouts lack (imo): atmosphere. This is up there with STALKER in making you feel cold and alone.
