FAR: Lone Sails

Just keep moving forward.

If you are looking for excitement, extensive gameplay and hours spent on the storyline then you can skip this title straight away. Even if it is at a very discounted price. But still, if you decide to spend the equivalent of a cheesburger at McDonalds on it then you will either love it or hate it. This game filled me with more and more sadness with every minute I spent. I decided to buy it on a cloudy and rainy Sunday evening as a mental break. And as it turned out, even half an evening was enough to complete it - in silence, reverie and nostalgia. And it was a hit. I declared the Anonymous Depressants Club open. The game itself is very pretty. Simple, even minimalist. From the controls, the mechanics to the simplest logic puzzles. The game tells practically no story - unless you draw one yourself in your head. Just a journey through a post-apocalyptic wasteland in a heavily steampunked steam locomotive-like machine. Alone, zero interaction throughout the story. Nothing and nobody. And this is probably one of the greatest strengths of this micro production. Our main task is to push the locomotive forward, take care of the fuel, the operation of all the mechanisms, and occasionally put out a fire or repair something. On the way there are only blockages, which we have to remove or open in a very simple way (I wouldn't even call it puzzles). From time to time a small workshop and some upgrade to the vehicle. And that's really it - we reach the end of our voyage and the adventure ends. Why 4 stars though? Because the game most simply did not bore me. It ended almost as quickly as it started, so that I felt a tastelessness - as if someone suddenly turned off the electricity and told me to go to sleep. There was something in all this ‘nothing’ that kept me entertained. It's staying the course - just to keep going, going and going. If my review didn't help you make up your mind don't worry - I still don't know where I ended up.

Heroes of Might and Magic® 3: Complete

Astrologers proclaim week of ...

I don't think this classic needs to be particularly recommended to anyone - the game is a legend on its own. On the plus side, in the case of the version for purchase on GOG, there is a complete version with all the extras that have come out. The downside is the lack of an HD version, which is available on Steam. Very useful with modern monitors and their resolutions. The game itself has a few bugs. For example, the random map generator can build a land where there is no passage to further parts of the map or where there is no appropriate shipyard to purchase a ship. This causes players (usually computer players) to be locked in the area around their castle for the entire game and have no opportunity to develop. To summarise. A title definitely worth its current price. The game today as well as over 25 years ago still manages to draw you in for hours. It is an ideal position for single player but also for hot seat gameplay with a group of friends. Don't hesitate any longer - add Heroes III to your collection and build a memory of this great title!

Caesar 3

Veni, vidi, vici!

The game Caesar III is a beautiful memory of my childhood. Even today, 25 years after the release of this title, I have returned to it with a sense of exuberance. Graphically, the title still impresses with its pixelated simplicity, pleasant animations and wonderful soundtrack. Even today, when more elaborate and complex titles are available on the market, Caesar III still requires a huge commitment to proper city planning, politics, the needs of the inhabitants or the economy. The game still manages to draw me in for hours of this wonderful journey back in time to the Roman Empire. The campaign mode is sensational and with each stage getting more challenging and even more fun than each previous one. Two career paths to choose from - economic or military. Each is engaging and each requires different planning. To summarise. This title has aged very beautifully. It certainly deserves a proper mod to bring it up to current resolutions so that it is even more pleasing to the eye on modern monitors. Thanks to GOG.COM for keeping the memory of this great series alive.
