It's maybe smaller than some other PC Zelda clones (for example Baldo or Airoheart), but it's probably even more interesting. Mostly thanks to really rewarding exploration, where checking every nook and cranny of map will be worthwile. You can collect gold (used for upgrades), extra hearts, new weapons, crafting materials and thanks to distinct feeling of every area you won't get lost or bored easily. It's rather simple game, especially its difficulty is low for now, so game is rather chill experience, it's great title to check out if you want to take break from more engaging games and just explore or relax in this beautiful fantasy world.
I've never played original version, this game is qutie nice still and has funny playable characters. But I have some objections regarding this game. First - game resets controls every time you close it. And by default moving is assigned to left thumbstick on controller, which is super annoying and almost impossible to play. Second problem - it resets screen size too. And third, definitely most annoying - while you falling down you can't control your dog... So it makes sometimes random moments into straight game over, even if you have many credits. Because you are falling down onto enemy, losing credit, game resets from the point you started specific screen and guess what - you will fall onto same enemy again. It will repeat again and again, so you have reload game then. There are saves, but they are limited, so some fragments will be tough and will require patience.
Still, I think this game is overhated, it doesn't deserve such low score as it gets here right now (2.8/5), that's why I'm definitely giving it 5. I'm not really into Asterix & Obelix lore, that's maybe why I'm more forgivable, my experience is mostly XXL1 recently (sure, it was more unique and more funny), but this game still has its charm. Graphics are cartoonish and enjoyable to look at, characters look funny, soundtrack even if not as memorable as XXL1, still totally fulfills its role. And most important part - gameplay is fun, even if with some cons. Combat is fast and responsive, technically there aren't many skills to use, but it's enough to make game interesting. There is throwing enemy into air, making tornado, or aerial heavy attack with different effects etc. You can upgrade most of them, but its not very developed system, every skill has 1/2 upgrades + there are hearts or increasing "stamina" required to using skill. It's enough to feel progress during your journey though. Asterix can also use his potions and Obelix can get help from Dogmatix. Levels are rather linear, still there are sometimes additional roads or secrets (I'm still not sure what's use of them), also there are small sidequests, which are usually time based minigames. You can go back to every level even after clearing it, which is helpful if you want 100% this game. And this won't be that simple, because on hard difficulty game is quite challenging, especially during clearing camps, which requires you to memorize enemies and choose your path amongst them. Overall it's really nice game, considering its only ~2,5€ during sales it is fully recommended imo, biggest problem for me was rather small enemy variety, even if every of them required bit different strategy, it would be more interesting to fight against more types of Roman troops.
I have around 5h in this game and still not quite understand it, but from what I've seen its very good. The artstyle, even if simple, is charming and its soundtrack reminds me kinda of new Zelda games or maybe bit Valheim? And about game itself, it actually plays a lot like more classic action RPGs than roguelike, because you won't lose THAT often in this game. My last run (second or third) was around 3,5h and I discovered a lot, but it was still MAX 1/5 of what game has to offer. So possibly it's quite long game too, especially considering how much upgrades there are possible in town and that I tried only one of few available journeys. You can also transfer your money to bank, unlock shortcuts for next runs and upgrade your town, so losing will be even less punishing. Game is mostly exploration mixed with action fights, which are interesting thanks to wide variety of weapons, when most of them aren't really "better" than other, they just handles different. Some are ranged based, while other are mainly for close combat and all of them are upgradable through fighting. Basically all of armor/weapon pieces are possible to upgrade thanks to exp gained from combat. Only accessories are static and there are lots of them, for example some are pet companions, while other upgrade your stats or even gives special effects to your attacks. About exploration part - it's well done too. Game world is big and vibrant with few different biomes, full of small secrets, bases with NPCs, dungeons etc etc. It will take a long time to explore everything and about some things I wished would be more developed are puzzles and platforming elements. I wish they were more often, so game would be more diverse. Another problem is sometimes techincal state, your character can get stuck in many places (it's easy to unstuck fortunately) and physics in combat is sometimes floaty. But even without this, game is addictive and will allow you to get lost in this great and colorful world.
Game is fixed or it wasn't really broken in first place. When tutorial asks you to "be faster" during training stage you have to press "change weapon" button - it's Y on Xbox controller, not sure about keyboard. Sure, it was bit unobvious, but other than that I haven't found any problems with the game. It's fast, bit chaotic, with energetic synthwave music and crazy levels. Gameplay is just oldschool arcade game made in modern audio-visual style. It costed me around 0,8€ during sales and for this price - it's fully recommended!
