I appreciate the value of making older games work on new systems, but if you are going to bill it as an update, it kinda needs to do something new and better. Other reviewers here plainly knew the old game better than I, but I did play it briefly, back in the day. I felt then, and still do, that Emperor, Rise of the Middle Kingdom, was the update to Pharaoh that got everything right: beautifully drawn, sensible, intuitive GUI, reliably excellent mechanics. If they had really wanted to do Pharaoh right, they had Emperor to go by.
