Far Cry® 2: Fortune's Edition

A rare piece of art

This game recreates Africa. The colors, the landscape and the vegetation, the weather and the ambient sound make you feel as if you are there. The dilapidated buildings, the litter and the constant sense of imminent doom evoke the feelings one really has, when travelling one of the failed states of the continent. The story deals with a problem that is even more serious today than when the game was made: how evil people with guns destroy civil society and make life in a country almost impossible. How fighting for power destroys everything worth fighting for. It is not a nice story, but only too realistic; the background could be taken from recent events in Sudan. You don't play a hero. You just try to get by with what you can do, until you realise that you are part of the problem and not of the solution. It is a grown up game. Don't play it to have fun. Play it for the atmosphere it creates. Play it for the catharsis that comes with tragedy. Play it to remember the real people who have to live in real countries like this. Play it for the unique political statement it makes. Definitely play it.
