Much like No Man's Sky, this game was rushed out the door, but since then the amount of work and care put into it show the developers truly had a vision of greatness that they finally delivered through numerous patches and attention to detail. One of my favorite games of all times.

Evolva was a game I could barely run in my childhood, however even with my horrid frame rate, I was awe-struck by the alien landscapes and unconventional game play. Essentially a third-person shooter, Evolva puts you up against a viral alien menace, the enviroment and puzzles which you must overcome by constantly transforming your four warriors with captured DNA from fallen foes.

I expected this to be a short little trip around a single gimmick, but I had hoped there was more to it somehow. I can't say I'm disappointed since I knew all along it was going to be a rather short tech demo. Impressive visuals, good music at times, novel mechanic that becomes tiresome quickly. However, too many missed opportunities to make a deeper, scarier and more satisfying game to beat. I understand that is maybe not what the devs intended with their story, however the trailer is expertly crafted to make you think there is a mystery to solve, that you are trying to survive. Tiny spoiler: you aren't, there isn't. After everything's said and done, I would consider it worth the experience for the current summer sale price, I just feel that I would have gotten more out of buying a book ten times the length for the same money.

Lovely game. Amazing what they did with Unity, the atmosphere is perfect and the concept more than a gimmick, it adds to the tension and sense of wonder as you swing the scanner beam around to discover you're in a massive cavern. I do wish it were a bit longer or there were more puzzles to solve, but it would have definitely detracted from the story and pacing. The price was fine for what it was, I would have liked more "game". However, it does come with some neat extras.
