If you are a PC gamer, avoid this hot mess. It's got underwhelming cartoon graphics that reek of a console game that was stitched together to try to monetize the PC market as well. Poor game controls, bad dialogue, and bad voice acting are just the beginning. Game is designed to be played with controllers, not a keyboard and mouse. hard to justify anything beyond $15-$20 in price, and that's ONLY if you can't find something better, which I assure you, you can. This is not even in the same ballpark, let alone, state, country, or hemisphere as Wasteland 2. Extremely disappointing.
This game does not work with Windows 10. It requires Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, June 2010 DirectX 9 SDK, and Microsoft XNA 4.0. Windows Media Player is not compatible and will not install on Windows 10, so there is no way to update your system to play this game. Even 75% off is dishonest since this game is not able to be played at all.
Oh Battle Brothers, how terrible are thee, let me count the ways. The name of the game is Battle Brothers, but battle is where this game fails miserably. There is zero way to calculate what your hit percentages are, and if there is some way to do it, I can't see because the UI scales too small for 4K monitors, even with a 200% increase. You will literally just listen to whoosh sounds as your team continues to miss swing after swing and battles where you outnumber the enemy over 2 to 1 are still most likely to be lost because your brothers can't hit the broad side of a barn. This is on Veteran setting. I can't even imagine how much worse it would be on the hardest difficulty. I'm guessing that the people giving this 5 stars have not played such treasures such as the original Final Fantasy tactics, any Fire Emblem game, or Suikoden if you want to go back to PS1. Those were tactics games done right. This.... not so much.
This is a stealth game, more similar to the old school Tenchu games than a tactics game. I'm not saying it's bad, but it's title is a misnomer. The graphics are solid, the stealth play is good, but for PC, the controls are terrible. This game is more designed for a console, and you will get a much better experience playing it with a controller than a keyboard, which is HIGHLY disappointing. Camera movement is flakey also. I didn't really see an option to make it center back on my character, but maybe I missed it. I don't believe it's worth $40, but if you can get it on a half off deal, it's a solid buy.
I played this in its original format, not the GOG edition, and I can say it is still one of the best games for space sims I've ever played outside of Xwing and TIE fighter games. It was challenging, engaging, and great fun. Missions were challenging but not impossible, and for it's time, graphics were good and performance was smooth. I used a Microsoft Sidewinder joystick to play this, and it made it much more like a real flight sim being able to spin on all three axes and control throttle. I HIGHLY recommend this game to anyone, even at the full $9.99 price. It is very fair and you will get your money's worth.
I picked this up along with dungeon rats when they were on sale for 80% off. Even at that price, I'm thinking I got a raw deal. The UI doesn't scale enough if you are using a 4k monitor. I'm playing on a 32 inch 4k monitor and even with 125% font scaling, there are still many things that are difficult to read. For a text driven game, this is a major flaw. What is the killer of this game though, is the combat. It's poorly done and you get almost no actions, 2 to 3 swings to the computer's 5 to 6 swings. Coupled with the computer outnumbering you in almost every fight 2 to 1, it makes it essentially unplayable. I understand "hardcore" games, but there needs to be some level of reasonable expectation that you can actually win early fights to progress. Also, in the early game, many townspeople want you to pay 50 to 150 imperials to bribe them, but you get 1-3 imperials for selling a dropped piece of loot. Within 15 minutes of playing, you are out of money and can't really progress. You can't fight to gain money, since you get slaughtered most of the time. This game might be worth picking up if you had $2-3 dollars you want to waste instead of buying a scratch off ticket, but there are many other games with much better design that are worthy of your money. I only gave it two starts because the graphics are decent. Without that, it's a strong one star at best.
I gave this game a try based on the publisher and hoping it would be a more historical Civilization style game. I'm playing on a 32 inch 4k monitor and the text is pretty much unreadable. I couldn't find any kind of option for scaling in the game. It's irresponsible of developers to expect you to right click and ask Windows to fix their scaling for them. This pretty much made it unplayable. It has a boatload of text, but you can't read it. Beyond this, for the small time I did put into it, the graphics were unimpressive, my octo-core processor had a huge amount of load lag (poorly optimized), and the sound was lackluster. If this ever goes on sale for a few bucks you might want to give it a try, but at $29.99 it's robbery.
