King's Bounty: The Legend

Excellent game, don't buy it, here!

This game is great, it's a cool melange of real time and turn based fight. It's a refreshing variant of HoM&M. In this game troops are in limited number, it's not just about winning, but winning without losing to much troops. And the game is sadistic enough so some real tough fights are present at the start and have to be avoided until you are stong enough or completly ruin your chance to finish the game. So save often. Why the bad notation then? If you want to play this game, don't buy it here: the version here is 1.7.34.387 and this build has a very nasty bug where in some zone you can't initiate conversation with other character. So you can't do quest and complete the game. So, if you want to play this game, go for it but don't buy it here ...

Space Rogue

Twice the price of FTL for half the fun

What can I say ? I love roguelike game so a friend offered me this on Steam. It was a total miss. That game try to reproduce Faster Than Light and fails. Each map is so tiny, but that's not a problem per say. The problem is the difficulty, on your second or third encounter you can encounter opponent utterly invincible at that point and no way to escape. Graphism are in 3D and aren't clear, the fight is just a ripoff of FTL minus the talent. The only originality is the mining of planet but it brings nothing important to the game. You want to try this game ? Buy FTL. It cost less, it is way better balanced and it is FUN. You know FTL by heart, you can take the final ship with your eyes closed ... don't try this. You will regret it. I really wanted to like this game, but it fails in so many aspect compared to a game released 4 years ago that it's impossible.

Guild of Dungeoneering Ultimate Edition

Room, Monster, Treasure rethinked

This dungeon crawler is a little gem : the twist is that instead of controlling the hero, you set the layer of the dungeon, putting rooms, monsters and treasure. At first the game seems very simple, yet your first death will comme very fast. You can unlock multiple classes for your heroes, each one with their strength and weakness. Depending of the dungeon and the type of monsters, some classes are more eficient than other. For example in a dungeon full of magical creature, a physical warrior will have more difficulties to resist attack than a apprentice wizard. This game is a weird crossing between a puzzle game, a strategy game and ... a rogue game. The dungeons aren't random, but the monsters you can encounter, the loots you get totally are, hence this little 'rogue' feeling especially since if you don't draw monsters adapted for your hero and/or weak treasure, you have a good chance to fail even if you don't make mistake. Especially after the first dungeon : The next ones are REALLY unforgiving. This game has a lot of jokes, and the 'drew' graphics blend very well with the them and the atmosphere. If you are hesitating, go on YouTube and watch some let's play. It's the best way for you to know if the game is for you or not.
