NOTE: Windows 8 users, I found disabling any kind of Compatability Mode fixed all my issues with running this game. It came installed with it on by default for WinXP for some odd reason. Ah, the golden years of fantastic strategy games. Friends and I spent many, many hours against the AI trying to turtle and cheese our way to victory. Towers, walls, catapaults, archers...fantastic! The two sequels to this just don't compare, in my opinion. Do you want a strategy game that spans the stone age to the nano age? Want to be droppin' some nukes on a civilization still stuck in the renaissance period? Want to fly planes over guys still wielding swords? This is the game for you. Of course, that's just one aspect of the game. Play it however you wish. The music is pretty good. Sound effects are decent. Graphics fit the period the game was released and you can't hold its dated game engine at fault. It also comes with a clunky map maker. Once you figure it out, it works fine. Definite 10/10 from me, though. Wish there was a modern equivalent, but there just isn't.
