Total Annihilation: Commander Pack

90s classic RTS

TA is a 90s classic RTS that spawned game series like Supreme Commander. The GOG version runs well (have only played single player), no bugs and it is some good nostalgia fun to play - for RTS fans at least. Graphics hold up well enough and like in the original game you can crank up the in-game resultion to todays standards, however this will equally shrink the UI and the minimap will be "mini". Overall by todays standards some QoL features would be dearly needed. However, hotkeys and queuing commands for your units work well. Biggest negative, I did not remember, was that the unit pathfinding (of ground and water units) which is infuriating at best. Unit balancing is quite different from most todays RTS. Static defense is extremely powerful and some towers will shoot across most maps (maps can be huge, and I mean huge), ground units are compared to air units underwhelming in most situations. There is a huge amount of air/ground/water units, although you will most likely only build a dozen different types. Not very much micromanagement needed. Campaign design is oldschool and fitting to the title annihilation of all enemies will be your bread and butter objective.
