Trüberbrook

Pretty, but far from perfect

I'm a huge point n' click adventure game fan, and have played hundreds over the years. However, I'm sorry to say that Trüberbrook is amongst the dullest. It's slow paced, with over simple puzzles, and the English voice translation is rough around the edges, and the acting feels stunted and awkward. I haven't completed it yet, and I'm not sure I have the patience to stick with it sadly. It's a genuine shame, because you can tell just by looking at the game that a lot of love has gone into it. The graphics are really lovely, the musical score is great, and the story seems fairly interesting. But the game just feels very slow. It's also very short - at the time of writing, I've played 1hr 29mins without using a walkthrough or hints and from what I can see I'm well into Chapter 4 (there are 5 chapters). I'm not keen on the simplified interface - the game holds your hand too much and practically gives you the soution to some puzzles by the way the it shows you which combination of inventory items can be used with certain objects. I have also spotted a few little bugs where certain character animations are either missing completely, or just don't trigger. I picked this up with a big discount so I only paid a couple of quid for it, but I can't recommend paying full price for Trüberbrook.
