Being a big Baldur's Gate fan, I downloaded this with high expectations. The gameplay is very much like BG, and the world you explore just as imaginative. I didn't like the story line as much as BG, but it was OK. The only thing I was disappointed with was lack of NPC interactions. I really liked the "side stories" with your character and Aerie, Jaheira, etc in BG, and also the way certain groups of NPCs interacted. Doesn't happen in ID.
While I really like games of this type, Syberia failed to draw me in. I got bored about halfway through and never finished. Some of the puzzles were good, others were dull. The landscape wasn't that interesting, and the story line didn't captivate. The several hours I played felt more like plodding than playing.
Without question, Myst and its sequels are above and beyond my favorites. The worlds you explore are highly imaginative, and the story lines captivating. If hack-and-slash is your thing, you'll be disappointed; your brain is what unlocks this game. The music is a key component to these games; this is the only game series that I leave the background music on, and put on high-quality headphones to play. It really draws you in!
