The overall experience of the game is like watching a B horror movie. It’s crap but for some reason you’re still watching to see how it ends. It took me a little over 15 hours to finish the game on medium difficulty while trying to explore and read all in-game lore. Deus Ex is a kitsch mix of empty locations, silly music reminding me of early era of cell phone ringtones, forced and ridiculous voice acting with the clunkiest gameplay devoid of any modern gaming quality of life solutions you might be used to. For example: in order to move the body of an enemy, you have to first loot it with the interact button. If your inventory is full, you won’t be able to pick up the body because you can’t loot it first. If you drop some items from your inventory, the enemies will hear them falling on the ground (even when crouched) and will rush to your position. Several hours in I found a melee weapon that killed every enemy unit in 1 or 2 hits despite me having the melee skill set to the lowest possible. This made the rest of my equipment pretty much useless. If I got careless I could heal myself in seconds because I always had my health packs or energy cells (used to trigger regeneration abilities) stocked to the inventory cap. Game forces you to make hard decisions when it comes to upgrading your skills because the XP are scarce and levelling up is expensive. However, the skills don’t matter that much because if you are exploring the levels thoroughly, you are swimming in resources anyway so using one lockpick more or less doesn’t make any difference. On top of that, in-game brightness slider does not work unless you install custom mods or something so be prepared for some tinkering to make the game work on modern machines.
