Dino Crisis

Not RE with Dinosaurs Part 1

Firstly, I want to thank GoG for their Games Preservation Program. Video games are an art and just like paintings or sculptures, they need to be protected and saved for future generations to enjoy. Dino Crisis fans may want to look away. Now, I’d heard for years that Dino Crisis is basically Resident Evil with Dinosaurs. That the same team that made RE made DC. That there were several similarities, limited ammo, deadly enemies, being stuck in a isolated, dangerous environment. And, to their credit, that is true. However, the execution of those similarities is where this entire thing falls to pieces. Firstly, there are only 3 weapons. Three. Larger than 2, but less than 4. A handgun, a shotgun and a grenade launcher. The variety comes with weapon upgrades and ammo types. But still...3 weapons total?! Then there is the fact that, unlike Resident Evil, which does give you enough ammo to kill everything you run into (except perhaps the hardest difficulties), Dino Crisis is VERY stingy with the ammo, and that’s on normal difficulty. So much so, everything from the game itself, to strategy guides on the net say you need to run away from every enemy you can. That standing your ground and fighting is the WRONG answer. Because, unlike slow, shambling zombies, you have fast, large, deadly dinosaurs roaming the place. And apparently, even though they are just regular, time displaced dinos, that have NOT been experimented on, enhanced or powered up in ANY WAY, these normal dinos take WAY too much firepower to finally kill. Really, our military should pull a Jurassic Park and bring dinos back, because they can stand up to grenade rounds and several shotgun shells and bullets before dying. Not to mention the T-Rex, who is literally invincible! Even taking an explosive grenade to the mouth just annoys it. All in all, if you are looking for a Resident Evil style survival horror game, this isn’t it. Get Onimusha instead. They recently remade the first 2 of those.

Dino Crisis 2

Not RE with Dinosaurs Part 2

Firstly, I want to thank GoG for their Games Preservation Program. Video games are an art and just like paintings or sculptures, they need to be protected and saved for future generations to enjoy. Now, the last game had a problem with not enough ammo, too many enemies that could kill you with a harsh look, and too many items to manage with a messed up, broken storage system. This time, there are tons more enemies, tons more weapons, another Player Character, no storage system and the only items you have to manage are your health items. Everything else goes into your super special, expanded fanny pack that is bottomless, except where health items are concerned. Those have a limit. Is this game better than DC 1? Yeah, I think it is. Does that make it a good game? No, not really. The last game wanted and expected you to run from most enemies and ensured you would do that by being stingy with the ammo. Now, you’re expected to run and gun, mowing down dinos left and right. It’s a lizard shooting gallery, and you’re the main characters. Because now, you NEED to kill everything that moves because killing gives you points. Not money, credits or stacks of dolla dolla bills, Extinction Points. Which you can somehow turn in to the Save/Shop and buy new weapons, gear, ammo and health items. Not sure how that’s supposed to work, but that’s what you got. The dinos are still bullet sponges, with no kind of explanation why a Raptor can get riddled with dozens of SMG rounds and still be alive enough to gut you like a fish. The 2 Big Bad Boss Dinos are hilariously bullet proof, to the point that a tank just annoys one, and the other requires the theft of GDI’s Ion Cannon to finally kill. I had hoped that these 2 games would scratch that Resident Evil itch. But they didn’t do that, they just annoyed me. It was very disappointing.

Resident Evil 2

My favorite Resident Evil ever!

Resident Evil 2 is my favorite of the entire series. Ever since I played it on the N64. How Capcom managed to put a 2 CD video game onto one cartridge and make it not only work great, but still look and sound great too and keep all the FMVs, even if they were shaved down a bit, is still mind boggling to me. I put hundreds of hours into that cart, and now, I can have it on my PC, thanks to GoG!

Resident Evil

Great game, thanks for the memories

I'm so very happy that GoG managed to get Capcom to put the first 3 Resident Evil games on here. Having them back in my collection is awesome! I haven't been able to play them in years.

Resident Evil 3

Great Memories, Great Game

So glad GoG was able to get the first 3 Resident Evil games. Haven't been able to play them since my PS2 died. Just like I remember it, thank you for doing this, and thanks to Capcom for not forgetting their old games.
