D&D Stronghold: Kingdom Simulator

An Incredible Game, A Ridiculous Cost

This is one of my favorite games of all time. I used to play it as a very young kid, mimicking what I saw my older brother do. It was my first introduction to the D&D universe. It was fun, looked cool (for the time), and I found it extremely challenging. A few years ago I found a working copy of the game and (after quite a bit of work) got it to run smoothly on my newer system. To be honest, I still found the game to be fun. Nostalgia certainly played a role, but the core mechanics of building your city remained interesting. The joy of finding a diamond mine just when you need it was thrilling. The visual and gameplay differences between the classes you pick for your character(s) was still pretty impressive. Unfortunately, the feel and look of the game did not age well. The game looks just as old as it is, the menus are clunky, and time consuming. If you haven't played the game before, or are familiar with old Dos-era games, you're going to be really frustrated. Now, most importantly. This game is not worth 5 dollars. MAYBE if you're a D&D fanatic and want every bit possible, OR if you remember the game and REALLY want a copy that runs right away it's worth it. But even then, the game is no Wolfenstein 3D, and I wouldn't pay 5 dollars for that either. Great game, ridiculous cost.
