Although I have always appreciated beat'em ups , it's true that their repetitive nature somewhat dampened my enthusiasm toward them over the years. This series renews the genre in many ways: better fighting system with interesting combos which lead to more varied combat situations and less monotonous gameplay, some mini RPG elements are also mixed with a linear quest based progression which keeps the interest high. It's true that the game has some rough spots. It can be hard to chain long combos, the lack of checkoints and losing money upon death is annoying (it's thankfully fixed in the second game of the series) but those are not enough to detract from the adventure as far as I am concerned. Although I did complete the game on Switch, I do not regret buying the GOG version and retracing the adventure on PC. This game has IMO reinvigorated the slightly stale beat'em up genre and deserves your attention!
