Lost Words: Beyond the Page

It made me cry

Cute graphic, simlpe story and some intresting mechanics. And the most important thing- emotions. I was not expecting to cry from a platformer- but it is a proof, that sometimes, the simplest plots are the best.

PLANET ALPHA

Artful platformer

You go from left to right through different platforms and levels. There's not much more to the story. You encounter some enemies, some puzzles and a lot of skill testers. The strong side of this game is its visuals. There is no graphic, only art. I could just stare at some levels for hours. In fact, I made a few into wallpapers. They portait an alien world- and it really shows. the backgrounds are spectacular, and varied. from sky, mountains, planes and caves, to the futuristic interioirs and robot factories. The game is not long, took me few hours. the only downside is a bit unclear save system- you can't just save and quit, you need to get to the checkpoint, which are at the begining of the new "chapter", meaning localisation change

Mirror's Edge™

Nice but frustrating

I liked and disliked the simplicty at the same time. The idea is nice, but the execution not so satisfying. I liked the parkour, but hated being shot at. And the controls are terrible. I was playnig on easy, and never before I have rage-quited. Maybe I'm not skilled enough, or maybe my keybord is getting old, but the number of times I had to repeat key combinations to get to the top of containers were too damn high. the story is just an excuse for more platforms and for enemies to appear. If you want to try it, only on bargain (they are often), the standard price tag is to high for this old game.

What Remains of Edith Finch

Pretty, quirky, different

This game is all about a story, altough visuals aren't bad. The plot is interesting, the switching of art-styles really enjoyable, and the surreal feeling really fun. similar to The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.

Firewatch

Beautiful, even if a bit simple

I love this game. The graphic is amazing and relaxing, the game was really immersive. There is not a lot going on (or is there?) and you have to walk around a lot. There are no fights, altough there are mysteries. You do not level up, altough there is some emotional development for a character. The game is linear, but you can wander around as long as you like. the story, for me, has a lazy, hot summer afternnon vibe. My first playthrough last 5h30' and I will replay it one day.

AER – Memories of Old

Beautiful, relaxing and fun

I loved this game. I bought it based on visuals- and I was not dissapointed. I immensly enjoyed this minimalistic, pastel, low-poly models. the colors and atmosfere is soothing but also exciting. You play as a girl with a bird-shifting ability. You can fly between isles suspended in midair, and there are few dungeon-style levels with puzzles (you have to walk there, which is a bit slower). The story is a bit basic (you fight the evil, uncover lost history and discover new lands) and there are not many enemies. This is not some massive game with books of lore and legions of enemies to fight. There's hardly even any dialogues. You don't level up or evolve. There's no things to equip or loot. And there's no need for them. I really enjoyed fliping between human and a bird and flying between islands. It was really relaxing, even if some of the flight were rather long. There is few tiny sidequests, few easter eggs and in-game lore to discover, quite a lot of GOG achivemnets Pros: +amazing visual side +soothing and relaxing, altough with excitment +gives the feeling of freedom +kid friendly +it's all abot discovery, freedom Cons: -no fighting -no leveling -no looting or exuiping Conclusion: if you came for this game expecting a CS or Witcher or Zombies or whatever, you will be disapointed. If you played Gris, or FireWatch I think you will be pleased.

Future Unfolding

Beautiful, but confusing

The graphics are amazing, even if a bit surreal. Altough, the few levels (?) were hard to look at becouse of strong and contrasting colors (ie: vivid green and orange together). musics and sounds are fitting. Unfortunately, the confusing things are plot and goal. I've played it for two hours- and still have no idea what was going on, and how far I advanced, or if there even was any advancing to do. I have not finished it yet- uninstalled after I could get past a certain point and got frustrated. Maybe I'll go back to it one day, with a fresh mind. I got it on a bargain, and I'm not sure if I would have been as satisfied with a game if I had bought it for a full price. The game is definitively not for everyone, and it does not hold player by the hand. If you like a beautiful and surreal experience you should like it. The trailer shown in the shop is pretty accurate.

Sweet and fun

I found the game absolutely adorable, with quirky (yet excellent) graphic, cute sounds and enjoyable puzzles. It's extremly short (also, thanks to it's size the download is almost instant), and there's no much point in replaying it, but it's free and fun
