Wasteland 3

Decent follow up, but lacks polish

I have given this game 3 1/2 stars if I could, but fractionals aren't allowed and I'll give the game makers the benefit of the doubt. The Good: - Others have criticized this, but I actually fancy the simplified inventory management - The music, especially during some key fights as well as the end credits - The pop-culture references, especailly with one faction on the east side of the map - Graphics are a step up - NPC's are voiced The Bad: - There is no pause in this game (unless you are in combat) - This has the feel of a game shoehorned a multiplayer game into a single player one, thus eliminating in-game pause - Not crazy with the way the attributes are balanced - Some skills just not very useful (survival almost useless) - Some glitches with the sounds and animation (sound drops out, or animations get stuck while character moves) - Some parts of the map just not developed all the way Thinks to keep in mind: - There is no pause in this game. - There are a lot of damned if you do, damned if you don't situations - You will not see all the content in one playthrough - I finished the game around level 25/26, and the cap is around 35 Overall, I enjoyed the game. It had a decent length without being too long. It's got some polish issues that I'm not crazy about, but nothing game breaking.

Cyberpunk 2077

Not great, not terrible

Pro's and Con's - Big map and not just on a horizontal plane, but a great deal of verticality to it - Playing as a gunner, melee, stealth or hacker are all viable - The voice acting itself is good - Lots of missions - Love the music soundtrack - No crash bugs noted - Keanu Reeves' character is a complete ass, but somehow like him all the same - Side missions are great Con's - This game has a very nasty reverse difficulty curve. Even playing on the second-hadest level, the fights can get trivial such that I am able to take everyone out from a distant range with just quick hacks. - The dialogue has issues with sound mix/sound balancing. Sometimes you'll hear the voice at one volume level/quality, but pick another dialogue option and the sound mix sounds very different for that voice actor - Claire Russels hands clip through the steering wheel while other characters seem to hold the wheel just fine - Nobody cares if you take their things - Cars, people, items can clip through the world geometry - Car steering and physics aren't great, and tough to control by keyboard - If you fail a mission and load from a check-point, I've seen it reload the game state in such a way that the missions can't be passed (pursuit involving drones became impossible to beat after a failure due to the way the game respawned) Notes: - be careful with iconic weapons. You have to have it on your person to crafter a better version of it - too many "locked" doors with no apparent way to open them no matter what. Would've felt better if they made the doors non-clickable Overall: The game isn't terrible, but it definitely was a train-wreck that was released too soon. It also fell into a similar trap as the Witcher 2 with its reverse difficulty curve. On the one hand you do get the sense that you are becoming more bad ass as you level up, but the fights get less interesting as a result.

Avadon 3: The Warborn

Good game, but too much backtracking

If you're a fan of the Avadon series, then this game will surely scratch that itch, and definitely would be worth your time. Depending on how relaxed or how challenging you made the game, you can expect about 40-60 hours of play time. The good: -Relatively well balanced system where you have to really think about your positioning, balance of abilities, and knowing the weakness of your enemies to get out of a situation alive. While some of the fights might seem too hard on the surface, can be doable once you learn how to manage the situation and maybe the right companion mix. -Every class has a purpose, even the shaman (the shaman saved my behind a time or two in the late game). This will make you consider your party carefully. -Decent amount of length The bad: -A LOT of walking. The characters move relatively slowly in the map. A lot of backtracking can happen that wears on the patience a bit. I ended up modding a file to speed up the walking by 50% -A couple quests are really flaky. In one case, if you leave from one region to another, it resets the quest back to its base state. In another, it's not intuitively obvious on other a couple other quests what you should do to advance it further (one involved even more complex backtracking) -Sound-scape is barren; which is par for the course for these kind of games. If you're a fan of Avadon's 1 and 2, this obviously isn't a problem -Had some flickering when using full screen mode. Wasn't apparent when I went to windowed mode The meh: -The graphics are are meh... then again if you're a fan of the prior two games, you already know what you're getting into.

GreedFall

Decent Game with amateurish mistakes

I enjoyed playing Greedfall, but there was some things that held it back; probably the most jarring was the many grammar errors that were encountered; which took me out of the experience. Been playing on hard, but even that can get too easy if you're loaded on magic potions/traps as well as bullets (dodge is your friend). The good: Graphics Voice Acting The bad: The grammar with the text The amount of backtracking involved The inventory system

Guild of Dungeoneering Ultimate Edition

Game is not so bad

Guild of Dungeoneering has its charms with a soundtrack that is pleasant to the ears with gameplay that took a little getting used to. Yes, the RNG is punishing, but once you figure out how the game mechanics work, the game isn't so bad and I actually found the dungeons to be relatively balanced. The mistake I tended to make is that I rush through the dungeons to finish the quest ASAP. Bad move. I'll actually try to card the adventurer away from the quest targets and give the character a chance to build up some gear and use the favors to burn off cards I don't want for the rest of the run. That alone made things much easier as I was able to thin out the card deck to the way I wanted it. I would give it 3.5 to 4 stars (dev gets benfit of the doubt since it's an indy dev) Pros: - sound track is enjoyable - gameplay simple to learn, tricky to master Cons: - can feel repetitive and grindy - can feel unduly punishing until the game mechanics are fully understood Observations: - don't get too attached to character levels. They reset after each run - don't get attached to your characters either. Many will die - don't get attached to a character class. The are tiers of character classes and you're meant to take the upgraded tiers as time goes on - you have no direct control over where your toon navigates too next. You can only attemp to influence it - play this in short bursts; nothing wrong with a game you play for 15 to 30 minutes at a time

The Long Journey Home

Decent game, but very punishing

Lets get some things out the door: - TLJH is punishing, even on story mode - TLJH is punishing if you try taking the shortest path home - The controls take a lot of getting used, and went you do it becomes bearable - Credits are at a premium... you need them to survive - The events aren't as great as they make them out to be - Combats aren't too bad if you know the proper tactics (stock weapons help) - The lack of item/ship/lander stats makes it hard to evaluate each on their merits (the Discovery has such amazing jump range) Btw.... save yourself a ton of pain and buy fuel and repairs rather than burning your metals on them. (or burn them only if you have to). Get EM from orbiting stars Good game to get while on sale, but not at full price. Not great for some of the issues others pointed out where the controls don't feel the best and the events feel.... generic. I can see why people hate the game, but I personally thought it was fine.

Wasteland 2 Director's Cut Digital Deluxe Edition

Good game.. Steam not cheaper though

Good game For those who keep griping that the Steam edition is cheaper, look again. You're comparing a digital deluxe version's pricing with a standard version on Steam. If you compare Gog's digital deluxe version with Steam's digital deluxe version, they are identical.
