Rogue Legacy

Mistakes were made

I made the terrible mistake of purchasing this the week before my university finals. Suffice to say, I've done next to no study for exams... This is a Rogue-like game, with a randomly generated castle (which can also be locked down by an upgrade to stop it changing for that play-through). The game is challenging, addictive, has fantastic music and art direction. It rewards the player constantly and consistently with many types of upgrades for your chosen hero - heroes themselves are varied enough that that no two plays are quite the same.

Quake

The damn of multplayer.

I remember playing this game on my overclocked P75 (to 120mhz), with the side off the case to keep it cool, and my feet inside the case to keep them warm in winter. Team Fortress was were it was at, that and Team Deathmatch. Ultimate fun, and still nothing has come close to capturing that style of gameplay today. It annoys me a lot that none of the id Software originals on GOG.com have Linux support (even if it is just the original ports). I used to play Quake a ton on Linux, in fact I played all of the id Software catalogue (up to D3) on Linux, as they were some of the very few AAA games ever released besides Loki's offerings. If you want a trip down memory lane, or to see what the birth of modern shooters looked like, you can't go wrong with Quake.

Descent 1+2

Remembering

Brilliant game. I still remember nearly falling out of my chair at least a few dozen times. Or even just the feeling of complete nausea coupled with toppling over backwards after pulling the mouse back too fast. Well thought out gameplay, fast pace.
