I was able to complete this game using Lutris under Linux. For blank video issue just install WMP11, for me the K-Lite Codec Pack advice didn't work at all. A few Unity crashes happened along the way, which are freezing it completely. Good thing Alt-Tab works no problem and Lutris has the stop functionality. Now about the game. It has a few cringy moments, but overall very well done, loved the quality of cinematography and actors' work. It's true that you need to play all endings to comprehend the full story (though, tbh, I still don't have a full picture in my head and can't find it online). I would recommend to buy it, perfect for a lazy evening!
Do I regret playing it? No, I don't. This game took me by surprise and I lost count on how many times I was saying "what the f***?!" (in kinda good way, the premise of the game is f*cked up and very sad when you think about it). Very simple mechanics, don't expect much gaming here. Nice graphics style, proper sounds and very good voice acting. Why wasted potential? The ending disappointed, considering what a good lore was established! Geez, so much potential and... we got nothing, cut short :-\
First things first - yes, not happy about no second episode readily available. Does it mean this games is bad? Freakin' no! It's awesome and I am happy to have played it ^_^ Can't remember how it fell on my radar... Anyhow, once I found out that it has no VO it had put me off and game felt to the bottom of games-to-play list. But it changed when I got notified of sale and I noticed that it got a massive update - a voice over! Got intrigued, bought it and later on played it. Totally worth it, VO is very good (it's really important to me in the games). Also not a fan of 2D games and still feel the burn with Oxenfree, but decided to give it a chance - it was the right call. Most of puzzles are nice (hated the ones with circles and alignment) and enjoyable. Story takes off slowly and felt primitive, but now I understand it was basically a tutorial. When the story kicks in - it get better and better, with good twists and witty humor. Graphics are very nice drawn and make me remember Gris in a way. The fact that mouse is not used at all is weird, but fine by me! Special thanks for a flawless Linux build!!! No issues whatsoever on Ubuntu 18.04. Final words - highly recommended if you are into story-driven games!
I was postponing to play this game for a long time because of the controversial reviews. Finally got it on sale, DRM free, and played it, thankfully there is a native version for Linux! It worked smoothly and I enjoyed it thoroughly! The ending is indeed controversial, but when you reflect on it you understand how masterfully you have been played by the game. It didn't take an epic turn at the end as many expected, but I think it's for the better, it felt way more natural and actually deeper this way. Play it and judge it for yourself! You might love it like me or might hate it - but I hope you will enjoy the journey ;-)
Harder, more frustrating, shorter. That's basically it... No regrets on grabbing and playing it though! Once again played under Linux using Wine, can't complain (except the hiccups with videos). Conclusion - get it and enjoy the additional fun, it's cheap on sale anyway!
It was very harsh in the beginning - low ammo, frequent deaths, very poor fps on High settings. Then I discovered that going down from 8x to 4x anti-aliasing has a tremendous effect - fps doubled! Game changer, plus I got a hang of it and started dying less. This is the moment it got really fun! Overall I really enjoyed and got totally blown away by the graphics, physics and AI for a game from 2007! It aged really well and still worth to play it. A note here - I played on Linux through Wine. Basically no complaints except the hiccups with videos, that was indeed annoying! Other than that - butter smooth on my oldie GTX960 (well, most of the time, sometimes the amount of particles and fires were daunting for my config, causing ugly fps drops several times). Final words - highly recommended! P.S. Not a single crash, amazing considering that I played not under Windows!
