Breath of Fire IV

1 of Capcom's gems, finally unforgotten

As someone who always wanted to play this on PS1 but never got around to it, I have to say BOF4 is gorgeous and plays very smoothly via this GOG port. Just had to make sure to configure the DirectX wrapper before launching and tinker with some settings: On Windows 11, I had to force "windowed" mode and set my texture filtering to "point sampled", but left everything else at default. Once in-game, I picked a proper 4:3 resolution to avoid unnatural stretching of the image. 1280x960x32 looked best on my 42" 2160p display - not too sharp, not to muddy, perfectly crisp and befitting of the oldschool vibes. I am currently playing this gem with my PS5 controller, with slightly customized controls, and I AM HAVING A BLAST! Only downside is that the opening movie seems broken. It's all red and green, colors are completely mangled. Which is strange, because when I go into the game's folders and turn the movie file into an MP4 to watch it through VLC, it shows fine. But the intro is also available on Youtube, even via the GOG client itself, on the game's page. So, not a huge issue. Overall, I can recommmend this to everyone who is into oldschool JRPGs. If you're interested, please show Capcom/GOG your support! We need more of this!
