If you played F-Zero you'll love this! I can see that the devs really channeled the spirit of the older racing games. This game goes very fast, so don't blink! You'll want to figure out what your ideal control set is, and play it in practice mode until you get the hang of it.
I bought this when it first came out, and it's true 1.0 was a hot mess. However, the graphics are much better, the combat is fun, and the stealth mechanics really helped throughout the game. Who wants to fight a bunch of gonks when you're outgunned and outnumbered anyway? They also fleshed out the story with Judy and Panam, and added some other love interests. The side quests are worth pursuing, and Johnny is more rude and sarcastic than ever. Too bad we never got to see what was planned for the outback. Btw, the soundtrack is right up there in quality with Skyrim. Need that PON PON!! CD Projekt Red, next time you release a game, please tell the investors to shove their time complaints where the sun don't shine so you can release it in the best form possible! They'll make their money back when people have a product that works and is immersive. I even bought Phantom Liberty DLC, and it was quite an emotional rollercoaster!
This game is PURE FUN! If you get dizzy easily, this is not for you. 6-degrees-of-freedom in a zero-gravity environment that makes the F-22 Raptor look slow. It's simple enough that you can play it with a single joystick and control the throtle from the keyboard!
I think this game was the first true 6-degrees-of-freedom GTA-SA-style space sim out there. Most games focus on the combat only, but this puts true decision-making in your hands. You have to manage your money and think like a businessman. You customize and purchase your own space ships, and have to pay for your own repairs. It's a very interesting game for the truly enterprising mind. While you don't have a Commander or Admiral breathing down your neck all the time barking orders, the freedom makes the game all the more challenging. Laundry list of complaints: The original joystick interface was very clumsy, and didn't support a joystick with throttle. Unless Origin remakes the game, I doubt it will get much better. Button 1=fire, button 2=roll/throttle, button 1+2=fire missile. I would very much suggest a programmable joystick, and perhaps reduce the sensitivity of the joystick itself in the software. My current hardware is a Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS.
