I got this long before the *ahem* proper release, & this has to be a worlds first. The game is in a game breakingly bad state now compared to when it was pre-release. I'm glad I didn't install over the previous version, as I can return to playing that one instead. Worse: Not only did they lie about "Game will release at same time on all devices", but also steam & even consoles are on the fourth patch, whereas gog have yet to even release a single one. I've even seen them boasting about releasing so many patches so quickly onto steam, yet when asked about gog they completely ignore it. That's no real surprise though, as few of us that purchased it here had several times in the past had to go to Twitter, fb, Reddit & Hinterlands forums asking them wtf was going on & even then, we only got the occasional reply. Story mode: It's basically QTE without the QTE. You get told to burn a fire for nine hours. So I kept the fire going for nine hours by running out to get more wood as & when it spawned (as there wasn't enough the first time around), only for it not to work. Turns out you have to collect enough wood to set it to burn for nine hours at once, or the game won't let you proceed. I only managed to figure out this broken game mechanic by visiting /r/TheLongDark. Sure enough, do that & a tree magically appears to let you progress. Oh, also the next part that you get to is also bugged (they all are...). There's a rucksack there that does sod all & so on. Things like picking things from a bush to survive only to be told "You don't need these yet!". What magical power is supposed to be stopping someone from picking things from a bush!? Sighing, I carried on. Got to the killing a Rabbit area when trying to pick up a stone, the game also threw a stone I had equipped. Really? Still not fixed that?. Of course, all the Rabbits scurry off at full pelt (hehe, pelt...groan). Final straw was when I got to the part where you can crouch to enter some cave area, only for me to accidentally click/eat some raw Deer meat & start to die. No problem I thought. I'll just reload instead of staring at the bad staggering stage of the game. Oh, nope! Got stuck with "You're about to die!" statistics when I reload, basically meaning I have to start the game all over again... That's it for me, I'm off to play something else & will return to the game when (if?) patches ever appear, but even then, I think everything so far has soured the story mode for me, so will most likely just stick to survival mode. Seriously though, this game was much better pre-release that I had recommended it to others, but I've had to tell folks to stay well clear of the game, even if you get it on steam. Sure, steam are at least getting the patches (unlike gog's third class customers) but I just don't want to recommend a game that's in such a bad state, especially when an entire set of customers are flat out being ignored.
