Baldur's Gate 3

this game helped me realize i was trans

this game is phenomenal. i dedicated the entirety of august and september of 2023 playing it. it got me through the breakup of my 4 yr relationship, and yes per title, helped me accept some things about myself. sometimes who you are doesnt match the mirror and so, you try to create that person in a cool new dnd game. and then that character experimentally gets a beard slapped on and it makes you cry. yeah. wild. anyway. i found it so easy to immerse myself in the world that i accidentally missed a BUNCH of things i have stumbled across in my second playthrough (that im not even a third through, trying to maintain a normal bg3/life balance this time) just because i was so caught up in the main plot. the combat was a struggle for me in the beginning (i was in normal difficulty) because i am not used to systems like this but once i got over the frustration, i really appreciated how it forced me to actually think through each situation and use different strategies in order to not be pulverized, something i want to get better at in this next run. speaking of, the replayability is top notch. the different ways to play this game is crazy. i just watched a video of a guy who beat the game only by using walking at his weapon. no mods or anything. maybe that breaks the game a little but there are so many ways, ridiculous and not, to build your character it is very difficult to get bored. plus dozens of charcters you meet, the main flight of companions (that you can also play as your main to get more insight into them!), and the various story paths you can follow to so many different outcomes, its just so worth it. i have fallen in love with this game in every which way and cannot recommend it enough. if you arent sold, watching some playthroughs is how i decide if i like a game enough to experience it on my own. there are very few games that i believe earns their high end pricetag, and baldurs gate 3 is absolutely one of those.
