I didn't expect much, but was pleasantly surprised. There's not much of gameplay, no puzzles either, but the story is definitely worth your time. It made me think a lot. I don't understand the negative reviews, if you really can't relate to anything in this game I'm sorry for you. I appreciate the addition of concept art. Thank you GOG and developers for gifting me this experience.
I really like vampire fantasy so I might be a bit biased here but I like the story. The game is aesthetically very pleasing (excluding some weird liquid reflections, maybe it's the style). Decent gloomy, atmospheric soundtrack, good voice acting... Only complaints I have in the combat department. I have been dying repeatedly in random alleys to mobs of the few same uninteresting types of enemies for periods of my playthrough. I admit it's partly skill issue, but also environment design and pronounced vulnerability to stun and effects-over-time. Despite this I enjoyed boss battles, even when I struggled. I believe more could have been done to allow for greater mobility of the main character. Even with supernatural abilities I felt substantially limited in movement, this was even more amplified by complex and confusing city layout. tl;dr Cool story and visuals, Eye candy boss battles, Mediocre movement and combat.
It's fun for a while, but becomes tedious very soon. Most surfaces feel like you're driving on glass. Rubberbanding is noticeable but not as much as some other games from this era. My main problem with this game is that it tempts you with many shortcuts but even light crashes will send you flying out of the car. Many obstacles are destructible (fun mechanic is that you get bonus money for destroying them) but some are unexpectedly solid so much that you end up flying through the windscreen even when you drive with moderate speed. Clean driving simply doesn't feel good here and the game punishes you for fooling around, so how to play this properly? Soundtrack is good, and it can run on anything so it's not all bad. It's cheap and it was on a giveaway before. I couldn't use controller normally through the menus but it was working properly when racing.
I've lost myself in this story, questioning what I know about life and what is even naturally possible. It is a very colorful and imaginative world presented as a visual novel, more like a documentary as there are no choices or gameplay. Inspired me to study and learn about our world again and enjoy wonders of life.
This game is visually stunning, sound effects, voice acting and music are also good. Sadly, gameplay is lacking. Controls often feel unresponsive/slow; although objects you can interact with are highlighted you will often miss them because the inveronments are too dark, you are being chased, etc; some sections seem to require too much trial and error, luckily checkpoints are frequent. It's short and linear which is not bad in this case.
After getting the first treasure, I encountered a bug. After I flied over the pirate ship, I couldn't get past the next screen. There's the sound, and my character can take damage, I can see on the compass that I'm moving, but the screen doesn't follow. I tried reloading the previous save, but the same happened. I found the game cute, and the music is relaxing, but I just don't have the motivation to start from scratch as it's taken me a few hours to get to this point and the gameplay is not that rewarding to go through it again.
