If you're the type of player that runs around until you see an enemy, and reloads after every kill.. this game is probably not suited to your playstyle. In Red Dust your gun is like a boss from dark souls. Each time you reload you get put in a mini boss fight that consists of anywhere from 3 to 7+ key presses. It's difficult at first, but once you learn the mechanics and you finally hit that reload in a high stress situation you'll feel like the god emperor himself. While the order of things is static, the gameplay itself is dynamic. Each of the enemys have different styles of play, which with the addition of being randomly spread around a randomly generated map can produce a variety of unique situations. There are times where you will be overlooking your next area, loading each round in your magizine with a specific target in mind, planning the absolute systematic destruction of your foes.. then a few minutes later you will be scared shitless as you turn a corner and see an Atlas running at you like Arnold straight out of The Terminator and all you've learned will go straight out the window as you barely manage to dodge a right hook and line up your shot just to see that your slide is locked back and your magazine is empty. The cat girls are a small glimmer of comfort in the dreary world of Red Dust. It may sound cheesy at first, but as you play, you will find yourself in the single digits of dust, barely scraping by with less than 10 rounds left.. and it is at that moment you will see these little creatures as the hope they represent. You'll find comfort in a place you never imagined as you stand there, this small precious being holding onto their rescuer, purring as you give head pats in return, all the while your still scouring your surroundings with a protective eye knowing all to well the threats that are lurking just out of sight Although rough around the edges, Red Dust has done some things that I've never seen done before.. and to me, it does them well.
