The game is just badly optimized. Although it's not bad the story doesn't compare to the 1st and 2nd Mafia version. Graphically the game look unpolished and restarts are often required. This is getting worse over the years
The Definitive Edition of Mafia 1 really freshens up the game from it's original version and also adds a lot of comfort features which makes playing through the game a breeze. I have played mostly casually and probably will stay that way to not deprive myself of any fun because as I've heard the racing bit and many other moments in this game can get extremely exhausting so I'll just stay as is
