Master of Magic

Great revision of the original

This version is a true recreation of the original Master of Magic, with all the same concepts, mechanics, and units. You can tell the developers very carefully recreated every detail. I've played the original for hundreds of hours and I haven't noticed any departures from the that formula in this new version. Some things are a bit of a miss though, like the UI is hard to read at times; you may struggle to figure out how many moves a unit has left in combat for example. And some of the rewarding cinematics of the original have been replaced with more static displays lacking the celebratory music you probably remember. The one thing I'm most grateful for is the stability of the game; I used to save every couple turns while playing the original, because there was a decent chance the game would freeze or crash on each turn. That is not true of this version at all; it is solid, and the auto-save feature is automatic and completely transparent. So even if something did happen, I don't think you would lose any progress. I've been playing for 15 hours so far and I've yet to encounter a single crash or change in playability, like the slow battles you'd occasionally get in the original. Overall, if you love the original like I do, and are willing to trade the beautiful artwork for some much-needed stability, this is a winner. Thumbs up from me.
